Zone 7 is responsible for providing flood control and water resources to the Livermore-Amador Valley. The district was created by the California Legislature in 1947 and Zone 7 was formed by a vote of local residents in 1957. Of Alameda County's 10 active zones, only Zone 7 has its own elected seven-member board of directors. Zone 7 sells treated water primarily to four retail water agencies - the California Water Service Company, the cities of Livermore and Pleasanton, and the Dublin San Ramon Services District. It also sells untreated water directly to agricultural and other customers.

About Matt

Electioneering 2000 (homemade silk-screened signs)

I am a life-long resident of Alameda County and have resided in Pleasanton for the past 45 years, moving here from Oakland in 1969 when I was 4 years old.

In Pleasanton my wife & I raised three children who are fifth generation California Morrisons and whose ancestors on their mother's side of the family stretch back to Coronado and the Spanish Conquistadors.

I originally became active in Tri-Valley water issues back in 1998 and have campaigned unsuccessfully twice for a seat on the Zone 7 board. I first filed as a candidate for Zone 7 director at the turn of the century, the year 2000, and again in the recent June 2014 election.

My undergrad education is from Saint Mary's College of California in Moraga where I earned a bachelor's degree focused on organizational management.

Through the 1990s I worked 11 years for Triad Systems Corporation in Livermore, primarily as the Senior Laser Products Coordinator. There I was responsible for orchestrating CD-ROM production and distribution during a time when Triad was the largest distributor of non-musical CDs in the United States.

After Triad I worked 7+ years for ProBusiness/ADP in Pleasanton. I started at ProBusiness as a tax filing analyst, moved to government agency relations, then national account management, and finally tax research.

I suffered through a layoff during the economic downturn and decided to fulfill an old goal of attending law school to become an attorney. In the summer of 2013 I received my Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from San Francisco Law School. I passed the February 2014 California State Bar Exam and on June 5 was admitted as a licensed attorney of the California State Bar.

Over the past 10 years I have been most active in the Sierra Club serving in many different volunteer roles, several of which focus on water issues including serving as Chair of the SF Bay Chapter Water Committee, Vice Chair for Delta Issues in Sierra Club's California/Nevada Regional Conservation Committee, and executive committee member of Sierra Club's Tri-Valley Group. I also served as Sierra Club representative to the Environmental Water Caucus, a coalition of more than 30 organizations working to achieve comprehensive, sustainable water management solutions for all Californians.

I currently serve as Member-at-Large and Treasurer of the Sierra Club San Francisco Bay Chapter Executive Committee.
